Flight operations have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a major air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted due to an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Travelers should still plan to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the hub as knock-on effects are cleared.
